There are less 5G users in China than it seems
Chinese telecom operators report impressive growth in 5G customers, but not all of them are actually using 5G. The indicators are that 5G in China is not progressing as fast as the numbers suggest. Some customers who use 5G plans do not use 5G devices, and this indicates that while China has a solid start in 5G, it is not awash with new users. Xin Guobin, vice-minister at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, mentioned that 5G terminal connections reached 88 million by the end of July 2020.

Lumina Networks is shutting down their business
On Tuesday, Lumina Networks, a vendor of open source software defined network (SDN) products, announced the start of the business closure process. Back in 2017, the company was expected to have a successful future, but the numbers did not live up to the expectations. Lumina’s revenues were low, despite gaining the support of industry giants such as Verizon and AT&T. The company’s officials stated: “The switch to open source did not take place at a pace anywhere close to the speed that would enable us to operate and grow our business, despite commitments from many to the contrary.”
