The telecommunications landscape is rapidly evolving as Ericsson finalizes its joint venture in Aduna alongside twelve major global communication service providers (CSPs). This newly formed 50:50 partnership represents a significant milestone in the drive to commercialize network APIs on a global scale.

Key players like AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, and others co-own the venture alongside Ericsson. The collaboration promises not just financial backing but also deep industry insights critical for API development and further expansion.

Since its inception in September 2024, Aduna has rapidly added to its ecosystem. This includes collaborators across the digital and cloud spaces, such as Bouygues Telecom, SoftBank, Google Cloud, Vonage, and Microsoft. By incorporating a range of operators and partners, Aduna aims to scale the adoption of network APIs globally. The ambition is to create programmable, secure telecom networks accessible to developers across various industries.

The underlying foundation is Ericsson’s robust global platform, aimed at ensuring security, scalability, and efficient API distribution. Aduna’s outreach caters to hyperscalers, Communication Platform as a Service (CPaaS) providers, and system integrators. Anthony Bartolo, CEO of Aduna, emphasizes, “In just ten months, we’ve built an impressive ecosystem across telecom and the broader ICT sector. This closing motivates us to accelerate the adoption of network APIs by developers globally.”

At the heart of this advancement is the GSMA’s Open Gateway initiative and The Linux Foundation’s CAMARA Project. These initiatives focus on standardizing network APIs, igniting interest in the technology’s potential to drive 5G monetization. Through these efforts, selling network APIs to top-tier cloud providers is becoming more feasible, unlocking new revenue streams and enhancing developer engagement.
