Enterprise networking and security leader Cisco, has unveiled a new, expanded Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) offering. This is a step for Cisco towards radically simplifying security and networking by helping network operations (NetOps) and security operations (SecOps) teams securely connect users to applications.

Cisco delivers the capacity to purchase all of the key components of a SASE product in a one-stop offering, making it easy to transition to a single subscription service in the future. Cisco provides all key elements of the SASE architecture, including best-in-class networking, remote access, cloud security, zero trust network access, and observability. Cisco aims to incorporate these components into a single subscription service and provide seamless, secure access to any application on any network or cloud, wherever end users are located.

According to Cisco, the reason for combining all SASE components into one package is that it allows companies a shorter time-to-market. One of the key benefits of SASE is that it should make it easier for businesses to integrate SD-WAN and cloud-based security capabilities such as firewalls and zero trust access. Cisco claims that the upgraded SASE architecture is easier to use than any previous offerings.

Gee Rittenhouse, SVP and GM of Cisco’s Security Business Group, commented: “Today’s announcement enables organizations to start using all of the core building blocks of a SASE architecture immediately.”

Moreover, the company is also developing the SecureX cloud platform to make it easier for businesses to manage new and emerging threats. With these enhancements, Cisco has shortened the dwell period for SecOps and automated threat detection and elimination tasks.

These improvements reduce threat detection time by 95 percent and remediation time by 85 percent. By building on the multiple integrations of SecureX ranging from Cisco Secure Endpoint to Cisco Umbrella, this open platform provides key configuration compatibility with more than 35 third-party technologies, including Google, ServiceNow, Splunk, and others.
