Google Cloud and Ericsson team up to deliver 5G and Edge cloud solutions for telcos
The two tech giants – Google Cloud and Ericsson – have come together to jointly develop 5G and edge cloud solutions to help communications service providers (CSPs) digitally transform and unlock new enterprise and consumer use cases. Google Cloud and Ericsson are developing new solutions at Ericsson’s Silicon Valley D15 Labs, a state-of-the-art innovation center where advanced solutions and technologies can be developed and tested on a live, multi-layer 5G platform. Thomas Kurian, CEO at Google Cloud, said that organizations have a tremendous opportunity to digitally transform their businesses with 5G, using cloud capabilities like artificial intelligence and machine learning at the edge.

DIDWW implements the STIR/SHAKEN technology
The global telecommunication services provider, DIDWW, has implemented caller ID authentication through the STIR/SHAKEN set of standards. These standards act as the framework for authentication of caller IDs, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has stated that all originating and terminating voice service providers that operate in the US must implement this technology. According to Ligita Chochlova, Legal & Regulations Department Manager at DIDWW, robocalls and identity spoofing are a great threat to the modern telecommunications industry. “At DIDWW, we strive to maximize the level of safety and security of our services, and we are pleased to confirm that the STIR/SHAKEN standards have been implemented successfully,” said the DIDWW representative.

Orange and Nokia deploy 4G/5G network slicing at a French factory
Orange and Nokia have announced the deployment of the first Industry 4.0 4G/5G private network employing network slicing at Schneider Electric’s plant in Le Vaudreuil, France. This solution enables continuity between LTE and 5G NR (New Radio) and ensures that the advanced network slicing services can be accessed by all end-users equipped with LTE or 5G devices. Tommi Uitto, Managing Director of Mobile Networks at Nokia, said, “With Nokia’s network slicing solution, communication service providers and businesses can gain a leading market advantage through the early launch of new cutting services, for all end users equipped with 4G or 5G terminals.”

Australia’s BAI Communications agrees to acquire Mobilitie
BAI Communications, an Australian-based communications infrastructure provider, has secured the acquisition of Mobilitie, the largest privately held wireless infrastructure company in the United States. This deal will significantly expand BAI’s business in North America, where it provides cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity for major infrastructure projects, including the New York City subway system. “BAI’s acquisition of Mobilitie establishes us as a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider in the United States and the most relevant provider of public transit wireless connectivity solutions in North America,” said Igor Leprince, group CEO of BAI Communications.

Apple launches the first public beta of iOS 15
Apple has released the first public beta of iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8, which are the next major versions of the operating systems for the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. iOS 15 brings new features to FaceTime, upgrades to notifications, Focus, SharePlay, a new Weather app, updated maps in Apple Maps, and more. The company’s new software version will not be completed until this fall, after which it will be released to the general public. For now, testers should still expect performance and stability issues when running the iOS 15 public beta on their primary devices.
