Linksys Signal Studio Brings Real Home Wi-Fi Testing

Home connectivity now decides the customer experience for many broadband subscribers. Speed into the property matters. Yet service quality often depends on what happens inside each room.

Linksys wants to shift this conversation beyond controlled lab conditions. Its Signal Studio in Reading recreates real homes for practical Wi-Fi and broadband testing. The facility opened in December 2025.

Traditional labs still help vendors measure equipment under stable conditions. They show peak performance and remove unknown variables. However, homes rarely offer such predictable surroundings.

Walls, furniture, kitchens, bedrooms, home offices, and competing devices all affect wireless coverage. So do older building materials and modern construction methods. Signal Studio brings these factors into testing before operators deploy services.

The facility includes realistic rooms filled with everyday furniture and connected devices. It also uses configurable wall structures. These can simulate different house types across the UK and Europe.

“The Linksys Signal Studio represents the next step in Linksys’ evolution as an innovation partner for service providers,” said Canus Augustus, ISP Sales Director for Linksys. “It is much more than a demonstration facility – it is a collaborative environment where we work alongside our ISP partners to validate new technologies, optimise deployments, and understand how networks perform in real homes.”

Since opening, several ISP partners have used the studio. They have tested coverage, reviewed mesh placement, and assessed customer self-installation. These areas can directly affect support calls and customer churn.

The facility also hosted sessions with a London-based ISP customer. An independent industry regulator also joined those sessions. That points to a wider role for neutral testing environments.

“Signal Studio was designed to be a collaborative space where our customers can work alongside us. Whether that’s validating a deployment, exploring a new technology, filming product content or simply meeting together, we’ve created an environment that feels much closer to the homes their subscribers actually live in,” said Jessica Peck, Linksys’ Product Marketing Director.

Reading also gives the project a practical advantage. The location offers access from London, Heathrow Airport, and the M4 corridor. That makes visits easier for UK and European partners.

Meanwhile, fibre operators face increasing pressure to raise take-up. They also need to keep existing customers satisfied. Better in-home performance can support both goals.

Newer technologies, including Wi-Fi 7 and mesh networking, promise stronger home coverage. Mesh systems use several access points to spread signal more evenly. Yet placement still matters, especially in complex homes.

“For too long, the industry has relied on laboratory testing to predict customer experience, but subscribers don’t live in labs. They live in busy homes filled with connected devices, competing demands on the network and constantly changing environments,” said Canus. “Linksys Signal Studio allows us to validate performance in conditions that genuinely reflect how people use WiFi every day. That collaboration helps operators deploy with greater confidence, optimise the customer experience, and ultimately reduce support issues post install.”

The message is clear. Operators can no longer treat home Wi-Fi as an afterthought. Real-world testing may become central to broadband assurance.
