AWS announces 3 new Local Zones
AWS has announced that AWS Local Zones in Atlanta, Phoenix and Seattle are now generally available. Customers in these three metro regions can utilize these new Local Zones to deliver apps that require single-digit millisecond latency to end users or for on-premises deployments. The company presently has 17 Local Zones spread over 16 metropolises. Each zone provides select services inside Local Zones near population centers, typically where Amazon does not already have a data center footprint.

The Club collaborates with Google Cloud
The Club, HKT’s loyalty program and digital enterprises arm, has inked a collaboration agreement with Google Cloud to build a hyper-personalization platform named ‘Copernicus.’ This platform will be integrated throughout The Club’s business pillars into its digital environment. The Club hopes to give clients a personalized online digital experience by combining the network and database with Google Cloud technologies. By analyzing members’ behaviors and preferences, the Club’s Data Science team will create machine learning and AI algorithms to identify consumer needs-based goods and services.

Vodafone Germany’s 5G network reaches 45 million people
Vodafone Germany has announced the expansion of its 5G network coverage to over 45 million people in urban and rural regions. More than half of the German population can access Vodafone’s 5G services at home, thanks to 18,000 antennas in 6,000 sites. According to the corporation, the 5G deployment was completed twice as rapidly as originally projected. Vodafone Germany’s initial plan was to provide 5G service to about 20 million people by the beginning of 2022. It has more than quadrupled that figure by covering more than half of the population of about 83 million people.

Enreach acquires cloud provider Telsome
Enreach, a European unified communications (UC) provider, has extended its Spanish footprint with the takeover of Telsome, a Zaragoza-based business cloud communications company, for an unknown price. Enreach said the purchase of Telsome will help it expand its Spanish footprint with additional MVNO capabilities and a profitable SME channel, following the incorporation of local B2B cloud communications provider Masvoz in November 2019.

FCC proposes stricter data breach reporting rules
The Federal Communications Commission has suggested a range of adjustments to its data breach notification procedures in the wake of a string of cyberattacks and data breaches at US telecom corporations. Customers will no longer have to wait one week to be notified of relevant security lapses under the new rules. Furthermore, the FCC wants telecommunications to be forced to tell customers of unintended data leaks, not only those involving hostile and purposeful conduct. Also, in addition to notifying the FBI and Secret Service, carriers would be required to report breaches to the FCC as well.
