BT putting its digital voice service rollout on halt

Last year, BT began rolling out Digital Voice, which  is a VoIP solution that works over the company’s broadband network rather than the old analogue network, as the name implies. This service is an essential improvement, as BT points out, to replace analogue technology, which is rapidly becoming outmoded. The operator is, however, delaying the Digital Voice switchover for consumers who do not wish to switch right away. BT did not specify how long the halt will occur, nonetheless, it is confident that the switchover will take place soon.

DigitalBridge enters into mobile infrastructure deal with Telenet

Telenet has agreed to sell all of its mobile telecommunications towers in Belgium to DigitalBridge, a US-based real estate investment trust and a subsidiary of the DigitalBridge Group. The investment firm has agreed to pay $820 million for Telenet’s 3,322 sites, of which 2,158 are owned directly and 1,164 by other parties. DigitalBridge has agreed to create at least 475 additional sites as part of the agreement.

Deutsche Telekom to leverage Airties for Wi-Fi deployment

Airties, a global provider of managed Wi-Fi solutions, has announced that it has inked a multi-year partnership with Deutsche Telekom to install Airties’ Smart Wi-Fi products and services throughout DT-Europe. Deutsche Telekom will use Airties Edge software to improve its subscribers’ broadband gateways, as well as Airties Cloud to give home performance control and optimization to clients in numerous European regions.

Sangoma acquires NetFortris

Sangoma Technologies Corporation, which provides cloud-based Communications as a Service solutions to businesses of all sizes, has announced the acquisition of NetFortris Corporation. NetFortris offers Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) and cloud-based, fully managed MSP (Managed Service Provider) solutions to organizations of all sizes and across multiple sectors. This purchase propels Sangoma into the high ranks of SaaS communications providers while also expanding their industry-leading array of cloud services with additional MSP capabilities.

Verizon and Cisco conduct autonomous driving trial employing 4G and MEC

Verizon and Cisco have completed a proof-of-concept autonomous driving test using 4G and mobile edge computing (MEC), claiming that this advancement will make unmanned service rollout easier by eliminating the need for using roadside cabinets to extend radio signals. In large urban centers where public MEC technologies exist, the virtualized infrastructure, according to Verizon and Cisco, could meet the low-latency requirements of services such as autonomous or unmanned last-mile delivery bots and taxis.
