Vodafone signs a multi-year agreement with Oracle
Vodafone and Oracle have announced an agreement to modernize their European IT infrastructure and accelerate its transition to the cloud. The companies will migrate a broad range of systems to dedicated, fully managed regions of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) that will be deployed in Vodafone’s main data centers that are managing its European IT and network operations. According to Scott Petty, Chief Digital & IT Officer, Vodafone, the flexibility offered by OCI enables the company to build a robust cloud platform in their data centers. This advancement will also provide the operational agility and scalability required to support the growth and diversification of the Vodafone business.

Google News has launched a new design for its desktop website, allowing readers to track global and local news on one screen. The redesign puts Your Briefing, Local news, and the Top Picks section on a single page in different columns, thus providing more focus on local news and personalized content. According to the company, “This change is just the latest way we’re bringing local news to users around the world. Last year, we expanded a feature on Google Search so readers around the world can now see a carousel of local news stories when Google finds local news coverage relevant to their query. This helps them easily find stories from local news publishers.”

Nokia claims new 5G uplink speed record
Nokia, Elisa and Qualcomm Technologies have achieved record-breaking 5G uplink speeds of 2.1 Gbps in a live demonstration at the Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland. According to the announcement, the new record will enable MNO Elisa to offer ultra-high-performing, low-latency services that will enhance the experience for visitors to the venue. Ari Kynaslahti, Head of Technology and Strategy at Nokia Mobile Networks, said that 5G mmWave is an optimal solution for venues such as stadiums that require large capacity and ultra-high data speeds over a short distance for thousands of mobile users simultaneously. He added that “Carrier Aggregation is the key to fully leveraging spectrum assets in different frequency bands.”

Twitter is about to launch long-form Notes feature
Twitter is getting ready to launch a new feature that would support the direct publishing of long-form content on its platform. The upcoming feature is called Twitter Notes and it will allow participants to create articles using rich formatting and uploaded media, which can then be tweeted and shared with followers after publishing. As per regular tweets, Twitter Notes will have their own link and can be tweeted, retweeted, sent in DM’s, liked and bookmarked. According to reports, this new feature may be one of Twitter’s more significant changes since doubling the character count from 140 to 280 back in 2017.
