Telefónica and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. have established a partnership to improve their positions as market leaders in the future of XR and the Metaverse. Utilizing the Snapdragon Spaces™ XR Developer Platform and Telefónica’s cutting-edge fixed and mobile network infrastructure, the two companies will collaborate on building and expanding the XR ecosystem.

The agreement also covers the launching of XR/metaverse goods and services as well as an  investigation of collaborative business potential. With the implementation  of this agreement, it will be possible to offer consumers brand-new experiences that combine the digital and analog worlds, reimagining communication, entertainment and commerce in the Metaverse.

Snapdragon Spaces, a platform from Qualcomm Technologies, enables programmers to maximize wearable AR’s potential through the use of cutting-edge technologies, a cross-device SDK, and an open XR ecosystem. Telefónica sees significant potential in fusing powerful networks, decentralized Web3 and immersive gadgets.

Both businesses are attempting to integrate Snapdragon Spaces into several projects that are a part of the Telefónica Innovation and Talent Hub, including its core and open innovation programs and the campus 42 for computer programming. As a result, Telefónica will be able to test and sell new goods and services with their consumer and corporate clients, expanding the Snapdragon Spaces ecosystem and encouraging their growth on XR.

Daniel Hernández, VP Devices & Consumer IoT of Telefónica, commented: “We are preparing for this future, building the infrastructure, upskilling the teams, evolving our services and putting in place the partnerships which will enable us to bring innovative new devices and services to customers. Qualcomm Technologies has played a critical role at each stage in development of our industry and our collaboration with Snapdragon Spaces will help to drive growth in the emerging XR ecosystem and realize the next evolution of the internet, the Metaverse”.

“At a crucial time in the technology’s development and roll-out, we are excited to be partnering with Telefonica to grow the active communities developing the ecosystems of the future through Snapdragon Spaces, which we believe will unlock the power of XR and take it to the next level,” said Dino Flore, Vice President, Technology, Qualcomm Europe, Inc.
