MediaTek has announced its latest advancement in chip technology with the unveiling of the Dimensity 9400. This new addition to the Dimensity line targets edge-AI applications, offering significant improvements in power efficiency and performance. Built on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, the chipset is designed to meet the high demands of modern devices while maintaining energy efficiency.
Compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9400 shows remarkable improvements. It delivers up to 40% better power efficiency, 35% faster single-core performance, and a 28% boost in multi-core performance. These enhancements are built on the foundation of the chip maker’s All Big Core architecture, introduced with the previous Dimensity 9300 model.
Since launching its first Dimensity chipset in 2021, MediaTek has steadily grown its market share. Finbarr Moynihan, GM & VP of Global Marketing at MediaTek, highlighted that in the last year alone, the company’s flagship tier has generated over a billion dollars in revenue. This impressive figure demonstrates the strong market presence and appeal of the Dimensity line.
The Dimensity 9400 is not just about raw power. It supports cutting-edge features such as Wi-Fi 7 tri-band MLO and is compatible with tri-fold smartphones. Additionally, it includes a refreshed 3GPP Release-17 5G modem that supports high data rates and improved connectivity, courtesy of its 4CC-CA and up to 7G bps sub-6GHz performance capabilities.
Affordability is another standout aspect. Reports suggest the Dimensity 9400 could be priced approximately 20% lower than comparable models like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This price difference could make MediaTek’s offering a more attractive option for many smartphone manufacturers and, consequently, consumers.
The Dimensity 9400 chipset has already debuted in China, and devices featuring this chip from Chinese OEMs like Oppo and Vivo are expected soon. As the company continues to expand its influence, MediaTek remains committed to enhancing their products to support powerful AI applications that cater to user preferences and needs.
