In a significant move, EdgeMode and BlackBerry AIF (BAIF) have entered a merger to elevate their positions in AI infrastructure. Both companies will coordinate a joint venture managing 4.4 gigawatts (GW) of data center capacity across Europe. They aim to have 1 GW ready for development by the end of 2025. This move aligns with the rising demands for AI-driven infrastructure.

The proposed merger focuses on enhancing high-density, renewable-powered infrastructure for AI, High-performance computing (HPC), and large-scale operators. EdgeMode aims to leverage BAIF’s existing secured locations and its own ongoing projects in Sweden to fuel expansion. Key insights from industry executives, Charlie Faulkner from EdgeMode and Jose Mora from BAIF, emphasize strategic collaboration offering enhanced market access and rapid development. Faulkner stated, “By combining our infrastructure expertise with BAIF’s strategic assets, we are establishing a scalable platform with multi-gigawatt capacity and a clear path to substantial market value.”

Meanwhile, the merger signifies a strategic realignment for BAIF, currently holding 23 development sites across Europe, already securing over 2.2 GW of capacity. These projects, especially in key regions like Castilla-La Mancha, focus on creating state-of-the-art renewable energy data centers.

Due diligence is underway for 45 days as both entities finalize the merger, focusing on shared oversight and collaborative governance in future projects. This merger not only amplifies EdgeMode’s market role but is a strong strategic alignment for BAIF by integrating operational capabilities and matching objectives across a shared pipeline. EdgeMode has already initiated infrastructure ventures, such as the 20MW data center construction within its 95MW acquisition in Marviken, Sweden. The merged entity is expected to unlock substantial long-term value for shareholders.
