Samsung has projected that advanced 5G uplink technologies will be deployed commercially by late 2027. These technologies, such as the 3Tx 5-layer uplink configuration demonstrated by Samsung and MediaTek, promise to enhance network reliability and data transfer quality. Samsung’s demonstration of the uplink configuration, conducted with MediaTek, leverages their M90 5G modem platform and integrates Samsung’s virtualized RAN (vRAN), Massive-MIMO radios, and macro radios. During this trial, the collaboration achieved an impressive 670 Mbps throughput. Such breakthroughs allow current network infrastructure to support more data without requiring additional spectrum.
The implications for FWA are particularly noteworthy. Dramatic improvements in uplink speed can double the maximum throughput on FR1 bands.
