Digicel Group has announced the launch of its subsea fibre cable, Deep Blue One, marking a major investment in enhancing international submarine connectivity. This development is poised to significantly improve internet and communication services across the Caribbean and South America, with French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, and Trinidad & Tobago being key beneficiaries.

The advanced fibre cable network introduced by Digicel promises seamless connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted communication and real-time data transmission for the countries it serves. Deep Blue One also aims to connect offshore oil and gas rigs, providing vital support to the growing energy sector in the region and fostering cooperation among industry stakeholders.

Marcelo Cataldo, Chief Executive Officer of Digicel Group, highlighted the importance of subsea fibre in global connectivity. “Deep Blue One is set to drive the next wave of economic development in the region. At Digicel, our mission is to keep our customers connected to what matters most. This milestone underscores our commitment to economic growth and innovation in the areas we serve,” Cataldo stated.

Deep Blue One boasts redundant pathways and state-of-the-art technology, ensuring high reliability, efficiency, and minimal downtime even under challenging conditions. The cable network is designed to be scalable and flexible, accommodating future technological advancements and growing demands. Additionally, Digicel has prioritized sustainable practices in the construction of Deep Blue One, aligning with its commitment to reducing environmental impact and promoting a greener future.

Beyond improving connectivity, Deep Blue One is expected to catalyze economic growth in the region. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has demonstrated that a 10% increase in fixed broadband penetration can boost GDP per capita by up to 2.3%, while a similar increase in mobile broadband penetration can lead to a 2.8% rise in GDP per capita.

With this new infrastructure, Digicel is set to unlock numerous opportunities for growth and innovation, benefiting the entire region economically and technologically.
