Colt Technology Services has announced a significant shift in its strategy by selling eight of its European data centers. These facilities, part of their acquisition from Lumen EMEA in 2023, are located in key cities including Amsterdam, Berlin, and London. The transaction involves NorthC, a Netherlands-based data center operator, and a UK-based entity, with both buyers backed by investment funds managed by DWS Group. This sale marks Colt’s focus on strengthening its core business, emphasizing digital infrastructure and global network services, particularly in response to increasing demands in AI, cloud computing, and enterprise connectivity.
NorthC will manage six sites across mainland Europe, while the additional two in London will be managed separately. Importantly, around 400 customers linked to these centers will transition to the new operators. Despite this handover, most customers will continue using Colt’s connectivity services.
Colt’s CEO, Keri Gilder, expressed satisfaction with this strategic decision. “The sale will enable us to focus on our strategic imperatives of driving growth, delivering exceptional customer experience, and building a sustainable network for the future,” she remarked in a press release.
This decision supports Colt’s aim to streamline its operations and concentrate more on its digital offerings. By maintaining a strategic partnership with NorthC, Colt ensures continued service delivery, safeguarding its network infrastructure.
NorthC, on its part, benefits significantly from this acquisition. This growth aligns with its focus on expanding its data center presence in strategic European markets, enhancing its service offerings through targeted growth and acquisitions.
Colt’s extensive global reach, with over 40 countries covered and key subsea cable routes, stands testament to its commitment to expanding high-quality connectivity solutions. Maintaining a foothold in the divested data centers ensures continuity for existing clients and allows for flexible adaptation to future connectivity demands.
